How to make Pour Over Coffee

With this method, you will have complete control over time, temperature, coffee grind size, coffee to water ratio, and pour over rate to create your unique perfect Sweet Buzz!

6 Steps for your best, handcrafted pour-over

Step 1: Make sure you grind your beans to medium grind. It’s not an overstatement to say that this is the most important part of the brewing process. If you do not own a commercial grinder we suggest you ask your coffee shop to give you a 7-10 day supply of freshly ground medium grind beans. Once beans are ground and kept longer than that the co2 released during the process definitely puts a limit on the freshness….but that’s a whole other blog for another day.

Step 2: Measure your water & grounds. 6 oz of water for every 2 teaspoons of medium grind coffee is a starting point for you. Different size grinds have different ratios but the main decider is your own personal taste.

Step 3: Heat water to a boil. The hotter the water the faster the extraction of the coffee, which with the pour over method is very important since water is being sent right from the kettle to your mug.

Step 4: Saturating the grounds. Slowly pour the water over the grounds so that they are evenly saturated and then let sit for 30-45 seconds. You are only wetting the grounds so that in step 5 water is more evenly distributed.

Step 5: Pour water in quickly until it reaches the top of the funnel but not over the filter if you are using a system with at filter. Repeat as the water lowers until you have filled your mug.

Step 6: Experiment until you find your own specific Sweet Buzz & enjoy the hand crafting journey!
